The IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program was introduced in 2012 as a way to recognize and reward our most loyal and dedicated athletes. Through the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program, athletes who have never competed at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI have an opportunity to earn a special slot to compete.
There is a one-time administration fee of $50 for Legacy Program applications.

All applicants will immediately receive an email via Active.com confirming that their application has been submitted. Should there be any discrepancies or questions, a staff member will reach out via email. Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the Legacy Program once the application period is closed, and all applications have been reviewed.
No, once you have competed in the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI, you are no longer eligible to enroll in the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program. This does not apply to IRONMAN World Championship events taking place in alternate locations outside of Kailua-Kona, HI).Racing an IRONMAN World Championship event in an alternate location outside of Kailua-Kona, HI does not render you ineligible to apply for or be part of the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program.

No, once an athlete has been accepted into the Legacy Program, they do not need to apply each year.
Due to the high demand of the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program and popularity of this event, there will be more eligible athletes than there are slots available, therefore athletes are placed on our waitlist according to the timestamp of their online application. Upon acceptance into the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program, athletes will be assigned to the next available year that the event takes place in Kona (for that gender) based upon capacity and position on the waitlist.
Legacy athletes will race with their age group and are eligible for age group awards.
The clock for the 12 years of participation history will start with your first IRONMAN branded 70.3 or full-distance 140.6. Your first race must be at least 12 years prior to your application – examples as follows:
