Application period for IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program is November 29 (12pm EST) – December 31 (11:59pm EST), 2024

Applications for the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program, do not guarantee a race date for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI.  Upon acceptance to the program, athletes will be placed on a waitlist according to the time stamp of their application. Athletes will then be assigned to the next available race year that the IRONMAN World Championship takes place in Kailua-Kona, HI for their gender, based upon capacity and position on the waitlist.

IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program Requirements 

To be eligible to apply for the IRONMAN Kona Legacy Program  athletes are required to meet the following requirements prior to submitting their application: 

  • Finish 12-full distance IRONMAN branded triathlons
  • Complete at least one full distance IRONMAN in the two consecutive years leading up to application.
    • For example, an athlete applying during the 2024 Legacy Program Application period (Nov. 29 - Dec. 31, 2024), must have completed the following:
      • Full-distance IRONMAN (140.6) between Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2023
      • Full-distance IRONMAN (140.6) between Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2024
  • Must have participation history with IRONMAN of 12 or more years (consecutive years not required)
    • The clock for the 12 years of IRONMAN branded participation history will start with an athlete’s first IRONMAN branded 70.3 or full-distance 140.6 triathlon finish as an individual.  Your first race must be at least 12 years prior to your application

  • Applicants must be registered in a full-distance* IRONMAN branded (140.6) triathlon which takes place in their acceptance year  
  • Applicants must have never participated in the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i
